This year we have had the chance to change the entire garden around – effectively starting from scratch. Even though it has been cold these past couple of months, I wanted to get started early so that it could all be finished up before planting veggies out – I didn’t want a repeat of last year veggies bolting (see previous post Third Time Lucky).
When we moved in our garden looked like this:
All the spare space in the sun along the fence was turned into veggie patch and the patio became a place for pots
The following year we were able to remove a lot of the over hanging trees increasing the sunshine and then this year we removed the pebble circle
It now looks like this
Between the removal of nearly everything in the backyard and the fact it is winter it is looking very barren indeed but still a lot of sunshine for winter. Next week will build actual raised beds for all the vegetable seedlings that I have waiting under lights. We will put paving and ground covers (Thyme and Irish moss to start) and bulbs and bushes and clean up in general over the next month
Looking back I am now having tree regret but I know the end result will be much more user-friendly and thankfully much sunnier.
